It looks like Alex Rodriguez will opt out of his contract with the New York Yankees and will become a free agent. With this, ARod will be free to sign with any team. Yankee officials have said in the past they do not plan to be one of the teams bidding if Rodriguez opts out.
Too bad, too. Rodriguez had a great year with the team, but I wonder if this is the first of many Yankee players leaving the ballclub. It started with Joe Torre not taking the Yankees offer (which was a paycut). With other free agents like Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera, talks could be interesting for this winter.
