Dale Earnhardt Jr Slingbag

It’s official. Ginn Racing was absorbed by Dale Earnhardt Inc today, creating a 4 car team competing in this year’s Brickyard 400 at Indy Speedway. Ginn’s 01 car, to be split between Mark Martin and Aric Almirola for the rest of the year, and the 14 car driven by Regan Smith will join Dale Earnhardt Jr and Martin Truex Jr. This should make the Nextel owner’s race interesting to watch for the rest of the season as DEI inherits Ginn’s owner points.

We came across these NASCAR bags on sale at NASCAR.com Superstore. Check out Dale Jr’s Slingbag, and see what other bags you get here.

Tony Stewart on fire (and we’re not talking about winning)

Tony is NOT happyMan, the guy in the #20 car is pissed!  Tony Stewart, during his weekly radio interview on Sirius Satellite Radio on Tuesday, compared NASCAR to professional wrestling and claimed yellow caution flags were brought out to shape races (listen to them here).  “It’s like playing God….they can almost dictate the race instead of the drivers doing it.  It’s happened too many times this year.”  Yikes.

Tony usually gets away with his biting comments, but not this time.  When the team arrived to Talladega Friday for the Aarons 499, NASCAR officials wanted a word first, not even letting the team unload the car until the big heads got a chance to speak.  A very contrite Stewart emerged from the meeting with a considerably different tone.  “The thought of (NASCAR) not being on the up-and-up was something I was frustrated about.  But after having the meeting, I feel more confident it’s not that way, and I wish I would have went to NASCAR in the first place.”  Ya think?

NASCAR was satisfied with just chewing some butt.  Tony’s been slapped with a $10,000 fine plus being placed on probation until December 31st.

NASCAR and the Car of TomorrowKyle Busch wins the Food City 500 and the first race featuring the Car of Tomorrow, the new version NASCAR has invested seven years of research to make the stock car more safe.  The biggest changes:  moving the steering wheel three inches to the right to move the driver further away from crash impact, and the wing spoiler instead of the blade to give the car better aerodynamics.  Most drivers weren’t in favor of the new car, including Tony Stewart saying it’s “like driving station wagons”.
